Mental health issues of adolescents have to be addressed in the primary care set-up itself, because there are far too many adolescents with behavioural and emotional problems in the community and only limited number of psychiatrists and trained clinical psychologists available. Any child can have anxiety, fear/phobia or depression but it would be called a disorder only when it is associated with (i) intrusive recollection beyond the control of the child (ii) autonomic arousal symptoms like sweating and palpitation all resulting in avoidance of the situation or incapacitation.
